RL-oo1 : This is an Intermediate to Advanced role play. Posts here should be at least two or three paragraphs long, minimum, and your grammar must be decent. All posts should be written in Third-person, unless you are writing a character profile, then sometimes First-person is easier. There is a Spell Check button beneath the posting box, so there should be no excuse for mistakes. Chat speak, l33t or any other form of non-English is forbidden here, and you will be butchered by Kain and I should you fail to comply. Here are a few examples of grammatical errors: "i walked down teh hall and saw a cat." It would instead be: "Bob walked down the hall and saw a cat." But please don't post like that. One-liners are not accepted here for they make for plain and boring role-play. You may add to it if you wish, but please include what is in the outline.
RL-oo2 : Godmoding & Powerplaying are also forbidden here. They are completely useless things to do, and will most likely get you a major flaming from the Admins and most importantly of all, the person whom you are godmoding and/or powerplaying against. If you don't know what these terms mean, I will provide the definitions for you. Godmoding : Someone who believes that their character is completely and utterly invincible. They cannot die, cannot be hit, can use the most powerful of spells, and can always land a hit on their enemy without giving them a chance to defend themselves. It is a very very annoying thing to deal with. Another form of god-modding is knowing what the person is thinking. Now we all know we like to put what our character is thinking in our posts. It's not cool, however, when someone else can "read" your character's mind. example// 'Wow, Bob thought. Susan's really pretty. "So you really think I'm pretty, Bob?" Susan asked.' Now unless Bob has previously said, "Susan, I think you're pretty," how can Susan know Bob thinks she's pretty? She doesn't. So keep it that way. Powerplaying : This is where someone controls another persons character, making their character do things that they want without letting the other person deal with their own character the way that they want. It is very rude to do, and will most likely end up causing the other person to become upset and bait them into flaming you. example// 'Bob walked by Lisa. Lisa saw him and gave him a hug.' No one likes a powerplayer, just like no one likes a godmoder.
RL-oo3 : There are to be absolutely no Mary-Sue's or Gary-Stu's. A Mary-Sue is a female character that is perfect in everything. She is gorgeous, unusually powerful, extremely talented, and is attracted to whoever the player has a crush on. They often possess ridiculously fancy and pretentious first names -- Angel, Raven, Jewel, Lorelei Bianca Julia Marizza Snape -- and are very, very annoying. They usually have a tragic and somewhat unrealistic past, yet they treat everyone like genuine equals, and always put others before them, with unusual kindness. Now we all know that some people may be very kind and all, but seriously; everybody has their flaws. Gary-Stu's are basically the male versions of the Mary-Sue.
RL-oo4 : Here, you may swear and fight and gore to your hearts content. This is a mature rated site, therefore swearing and violence is allowed to its most morbidly vulgar extent. Deaths are also permitted, but don't go on some psycho killing frenzy, and to add to that, you can kill someone's character without their permission, just make sure your fight is realistic. Sexual relations, on the other hand, have a limit. You may get to a relatively... perverse stage before it hits cybering. Then, if you wish to continue, you may take it to the private messaging system, or you may add to your subject [ Mature Sexual Content Warning ], to give others some sort of warning before they wander into that poor thread like some happless nine-year-old boy wandering into a porn store for the very first time.
RL-oo5 : Profiles must be written and posted in the Characters forum before you may roleplay. Your character's Bio must have the Character Outline format. You may add to it if you wish, but please include what is in the outline.
RL-oo6 : OOC [ aka Out of Character ] chatter should go into the General forum, and no where else. If it's a quick question about your roleplay, you may put inside [ brackets ] or in ( parenthesis' ), or write it beside 'ooc//'. Otherwise, it's to the General forum for you.
RL-oo7 : Any Out of Character racial, religious, sexist or sexual orientated derogatory comments will be refrained upon in this forum at all times. Flaming without cause will also be warned at first, then punished on a second offense. It's rude and just plain mean, therefore should not be allowed.
RL-oo8 : Staying In-Character (IC) You can be as creative as possible - as long as you stay in character! For instance, let's say Bob has a furious temper and is always angry. You wouldn't end up writing like this:
"Bob woke up and was happy for no reason. He looked outside and saw a pretty butterfly and thought how great everything was."
If you want your character to have a personality change, make it gradual and over time, so that it seems realistic. While we want you to be creative, you must remember there are boundaries, and we want this to be as realistic as possible!
RL-oo9 : Descriptions We also want you to be descriptive. You don't have to write a whole novel here, but it'd be nice to throw in some color here and there! Let's spice up this sentence:
"Bob went outside."
Okay, now...
"Bob walked out of the entrance doors to outside, where he noticed it was freezing cold. I wish I brought my jacket now, Bob thought. He shivered, but continued walking through the deep snow."
We like to create settings. Even if the setting is bland, describe it's blandness!
RL-oo1o : Jump In/Interruptions Another important rule in role-play is to go along with what's happening if you're just jumping into a conversation. Now if Susan is talking to Lisa and Bob wants to talk to Susan, would he just randomly start talking to Susan and cut off Lisa? No. Let's have some examples, hmm?
BAD EXAMPLE "So, are you going to the dance with anyone yet?" Lisa asked Susan curiously. Susan blushed. She'd been wanting to ask Bob for ages. "No...not yet," she squeaked. "Hey Susan, will you go to the dance with me?" Bob asked.
DO NOT DO THAT, I beg of you!
GOOD EXAMPLE "So, are you going to the dance with anyone yet?" Lisa asked Susan curiously. Susan blushed. She'd been wanting to ask Bob for ages. "No...not yet," she squeaked. Bob caught sight of Susan and waved to her, but she didn't notice him because she was talking to Lisa. He went up to the two girls. "Hey, you guys."
(Give them time to answer if you're introducing yourself, unless your character isn't the type of person to do so. XD)
Lisa smiled at Bob. "Hey Bob," she said. Susan blushed. "Hey Bob." Bob said hi again, but then turned to Susan. "Um, Susan? Could I talk to you alone?" "Sure Bob," Susan nodded. "Is that okay, Lisa?" "Yeah, sure. I'll get going now!" Lisa exclaimed. She watched her two friends go off. 'Good luck,' she mouthed to Susan before going back inside.'
RL-oo11 : Please let us know when you are going to be gone for more than three days. If you're grounded and can't warn us, that's okay. Just get back on when your restriction is over and let us know. Also when you leave, please post in the 'Away' board, called 'Fading Trails'. A lot of people seem to like to say "I'll be away for a week" in the cBox, but really, it doesn't count when it's in there. People will just continue to write away in that little Box, so when your note gets pushed away, people are suddenly like "Where's _______??" The 'Away' board is there for a reason, people.
RL-oo12 : This is a FREEFORM roleplay. This means that there is absolutely no planning ANYTHING out of character. There's nothing wrong with asking someone to roleplay with you but anything other then that is unacceptable and you WILL be warned. This is the one rule that we will not make exceptions to though every so often we might throw in a plot for the whole site. If you have any questions on the limitations of this rule then PM us.
RL-oo13 : Nouveaus make the majority of the school, Legacies are more like royalty, both of their parents are well known in society and both went to Spence when when they were young enough to go to collage. So you can see why we want more Nouveaus then Legacies. So if you every get to making a bunch of characters you can only make one Legacy for every 4 Nouveaus you make.
RL-oo14 : Most Important Rule Now, for the most important rule in role-play...-drum roll-... HAVE FUN! This forum was made for fun and that's what we're here for. So please enjoy yourselves!
Thank you!
and yes, these are just forum rules, the school rules are MUCH stricter, of course your character doesn't have to follow those, just don't get caught!
edit;; you might also want to know what the symbols beside the years are. because † and ≈ mean people are staff. † means that the person is an Administrator and ≈ means that that person is a moderator. everyone else is just normal people
