TOMORROW, TOMORROW & TOMORROW!!!| basics
[image]
Dominic Léon Séraphin
“It isn’t until you’ve cracked under pressure that you can stand and say you know who you are – until then, you don’t know what you could become when the world finally decides to break you, and thus you are just another actor on the stage of life.”

CHARACTER’S FULL NAME: Dominic Léon Séraphin
NICKNAME(S): Dom
GENDER: Male
DOB: July 2nd, 1989
AGE: 19
ECONOMIC STATUS: Dominic’s father, Richard, owns several banks in the Chicago-region, which, naturally, accumulates a respectable portion of wealth to their name. His mother, Carla, is a valued real estate agent who knows how to settle a deal within hours and obtain any goal within her reach.
SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Heterosexual

YEAR: First Year
MAJOR: Performing Arts
MINOR: x
EDUCATION PRIOR TO SPENCE ACADEMY: Attended Whitney Young High School, 9-12

FULL OF SOUND AND FURY!!!| the outward particulars

FACE CLAIM: Gaspard Ulliel
NOUVEAU OR LEGACY: Nouveau

HAIR: Dark brown, highlighted with auburn, spins the illusion of ebony when angled correctly.
EYES: Brown
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 5’10 / Unsure
BODY TYPE: Dominic is trim, with muscles grafted beneath his pale skin, though not enough to hinder the rather panther-like aura he projects. He radiates felineness, possessing a startling grace in his lithe structure.

FIRST IMPRESSION: Dominic is a master of the one-sided smile, his eyes sweet enough to envelop you in the feeling that you are the most important person to him. His smile singles you out, the corner of his lips touched by imprints, and his voice could melt even the most brutish insult into a lolling lullaby. He’d be willing to hug even a stranger, and the way he holds the small of your back with one hand and cradles the back of your head with the other creates the impression of a sanctuary. Dominic will insure you receive his utmost attentiveness when you address him, even if he dislikes you greatly, and his earnest eyes turn the limelight to you as soon as you draw his attention. Most would describe him, in all, a warm person who makes you feel, simply put, safe, no matter where you are.

THE WINTER OF OUR DISCONTENT!!!| the intricate parts

PERSONALITY: Dominic appears complex, an unlimited ocean of unpredictability, but, should you study the constellations of his characteristics, you slowly develop an understanding of the reasoning behind his actions and words. There are a few layers to Dominic, and, were they to be peeled away, you’d discover he is a simple being merely twisted by his parent’s will.

First layer
On the surface, one might take note of his confidence, though his defined modesty prevents said confidence from rubbing others as arrogance. From the walk one might call a ‘strut’ to the soothing, self-assured words he utters, Dominic is considered calm and collected. What would crumble the foundation of those around him would hardly hinder Dominic’s constant ability to keep his cool and figure out a solution. He does not seek the spotlight, and will content himself with the background. However, despite this, he tends to be in the center of every group, the rock that ties them all together. He’s social, fun-loving, and laidback, with enough wit, tenderness, and appeal to title him ‘charming’.

Second layer
He has a dominant fraction of protectiveness to him. Though many would love to sum this up to a heroic basis, he really does this for two main reasons: one, because, in essence, he is territorial, and two, because he attempts to build some sort of self-worth through means of displaying himself as a ‘hero’. Dominic appears unflinchingly brave, even to the point of recklessness, like he could slap a killer without hesitance. But, to be truthful, this façade is just another act; a veil masking the true fear that surrounds him. His life is not bathed with fright, but it is doused enough to force him to construct some sort of counteraction, and this becomes rebellion.

Third layer

Now we’re nearing the hot core of his true being. Dominic is naturally independent. He grew up amongst nannies, maids, butlers, and chauffeurs, unsure of what his father even looked like until he’d turned ten. While most often children of such an upraising turn out bratty and incapable of doing anything for themselves, Dominic evolved a hard defiance for all authority, particularly to those he deemed unworthy of their superiority. He became unruly, untamable, and, indeed, disobedient. Sure, this could be accounted for his ‘boldness’ that so many of his friends adore, but his parents saw it as blatant mutiny.

Fourth layer

While this is a heavily-shrouded layer, it is a governing section of his disposition. Dominic is flighty. You could call it ‘afraid of commitment’, but it’s not so much commitment that he runs from, but more so feelings in general. Dominic will find a girl he likes, no matter her social standing. She might be the ‘all-around’ sleaze, the ‘nerd’ in the corner, the ‘girl-next-door’, even the ‘queen bee’. Whatever her identity, he takes on the role of a very serious admirer once he picks out his object of desire. He all but stalks her, and it is rare for her to wait long to like him back. However, the minute she starts responding to him, he locks down and runs away. Fickle and hypocritical, yes, but the sad reality either way.

Fifth layer

Ah, the last, and surely the most central of them all. The hub of his persona. The above layers are so interwoven with steel that one would expect his core to be strong and raging with electricity. This would be but an illusion. Deep inside, his self-esteem is a cracked, flimsy sheet covering a world of self-loathing and doubt. Even if his every choice seems to be the right one, he is constantly looking back, second-guessing himself, and fuming over his smallest mistakes. If he trips up, he’ll punish himself for weeks, but, should someone else blow a hole through his entire life, he merely forgives and forgets. That’s one way to put it; he is perfect to everyone else, but, toward himself, he is a junkyard of mass deficiency.

But no worries, dollface. You won't see any of his inner layers. No one ever will, for he hoards them away like he'd shatter if they were known.
You'll never see anything beyond that secure, sweet droll of his.
For why would you want to see anything more? Dominic shows what the world wants, and they want perfection.

LIKES:

  • Anyone possessing a trait that stands out to him, whether it be a physical attribution or a mental quality. This does not file him as shallow, but more so a collector of one-of-a-kinds, to be blunt.
  • French, due to his French heritage. His mother speaks a bit of it, but he’s never attempted to learn the art.
  • The cold, no matter how bitter
  • Darkness
  • Enclosed spaces
  • “Fierce” cologne from Abercrombie & Fitch
  • “Love Spell” perfume from Victoria’s Secret
  • Storms of any kind, from the malicious tornado to the peaceful drizzle
  • Toxic scents, such as permanent markers, gasoline, smoke, et cetera
  • White, black, and red
  • Cats
  • Anything sharp
  • Fame
  • Blue eyes – he could like the ugliest girl in the world so long as she had beautiful, outstanding eyes that drew him in
  • Articulation – when someone talks in the drawl of a prep, doesn’t finish their sentences, or uses excessive ‘like’s, he gets annoyed and his company will become lathered with forced small talk
  • Alcohol
  • Horses

DISLIKES:

  • Wool
  • Heat
  • Someone who follows the trend
  • Arrogance
  • Superiority
  • Ignorance
  • The smell of tuna, stale perfume, and lavender
  • The color purple
  • Birds utterly petrify him
  • Someone who tries too hard to fit into a label
  • Clinginess
  • Overused make-up
  • Common phrases
  • The term “Oh, my gosh”
  • Repetition
  • Monkeys

STRENGTHS:

  • Acting. Dominic could pull off any character, even a woman; naturally, this makes him an excellent liar.
  • Charm. He could convince a snake to purr should he have a reason to!
  • Counteracting sarcasm. Dominic himself rarely uses the crude form of humor, but he is well-equipped with overcoming it.

WEAKNESSES:

  • His temper. He isn’t exactly irrational and hotheaded, but if someone tries to assert dominance over him, he becomes completely impossible, refusing to do anything they say and throwing what one might call a ‘hissy fit’.
  • His phone. Get it in your grasp, and he’ll crumble like sand to get it back.
  • Accents. The sound of a French or British accent will make his blood rush.
  • He gets motion sick ridiculously easy. I mean, hit-the-deck-he’s-gonna-blow motion sick.

CHARACTER FLAWS: Well, I think the lowest form of self-esteem would count as a character flaw, would it not? He’s not particularly insecure about what people say to him so much as he is overly-critical of himself, and is constantly attempting to achieve his father’s approval. He is extremely impulsive and reckless, and he tends to contradict himself frequently, creating a shifting exterior of volatility.
ECCENTRICITIES: Whenever Dominic gets on the phone, he has to pace in tight circles during the entire conversation – if he sits down, he’ll zone out and then realize he started pacing again without knowledge of having even stood up. He has a fetish with hair and is obsessed with playing with other’s tresses. When he gets any intense emotion, he clenches his jaw as if trying to restrain himself from falling apart, which has resulted in frequent jaw pains, a very ticked-off doctor, and an overwhelming amount of Advil that he’s sure will count against him as time progresses.
TALENTS: Well, as previously mentioned, he is an aspiring actor. Thus, his talents are largely invested in acting. He knows how to keep his alcohol down, sure, and he can ride a horse like nobody’s business, but acting is his main ability.

THE FAULT IS NOT IN OUR STARS!!!| the tale behind the face

FAMILY

I. Parents; Carla, mother – Richard, father
II. Siblings; none
III. Other Relatives; Arthur, uncle (on his mother’s side) – James, uncle (on his father’s side) – Marilynn, grandmother (on his mother’s side) – Regis, grandfather (on his mother’s side)
IV. Pet(s); None

HOMETOWN: Chicago, Illinois

HISTORY: Dominic isn’t your sob-story man who expects to be treated as if he has a tragic past. His history is only that, and many people have the same path as he set behind them. It isn’t a unique history, it’s just his history, and a burden he doesn’t complain about.
Nevertheless, it did have a bit of a negative impact on him, in the end.

You might call him just another case of child neglect sprung up by the disease of greed. He was brought up by two parents he never saw, so you could say his mother and father were replaced by a hoard of for-hire nannies that changed once a week. Sara, Beth, Sue, Mary, all their names just slowly mixed together into one definite identity: the babysitter. The people Carla and Richard Séraphin dumped their kid with so that they could go increase their pocket book. The sad thing was, he wasn’t even depressed. He didn’t miss them. You can’t miss what you simply never experienced. He was deprived, but was immune to the emotions usually accompanying such abandon.

As time wore on, his parents returned to his life, taking on the position of his complete authority, dictating every aspect of his life with the excuse of ‘shaping his future’. For surely they only had his best interests in mind! He, who they knew so little of. The boy they’d named and then left without watching to see how he’d fill out the identity they’d provided. He became his own man, and by time they came back to grab the reins, they found he’d already cut them. From the healthy position of his authority, they became his oppression, and that led to the hard-core rebellion now knit in his character.

As he grew, Dominic had to find out why his parents neglected him so. In the pursuit of the answer, he somehow got it irreversibly hard-wired into his brain that it was because he wasn’t good enough. He didn’t match their standards, so they threw him away. Like the curtain they decided was too pale a blue to match the navy-draped room. He couldn’t even be compared to that ridiculous chandelier, which was their pride and joy to show company.
They showed their guests the chandelier, talked about its history, its worth, its meaning, but never thought to introduce Dominic, or even acknowledge he was there.
Therefore, the chandelier was better than he was. It isn’t a very out-there to thing to understand how he turned out with such insecurity.
And, like always, they booted him off to the back of their minds.
Is it such a surprise that he ran away to Spence?

COWARDS DIE A THOUSAND TIMES!!!| the interview

The seconds had liquefied, blurring with the minutes, dragging on ‘till Dominic was sure the clock had died. His topaz-tinged eyes traced over the nondescript waiting room, lingering on the shadows tainting the average off-white of the walls, like claws ravaging a blank canvas. He felt as if the receptionist’s gaze was flickering toward him each time he remembered her presence, sure that she was judging him and that she would tell the administrator’s that surely this boy was too fidgety, too unworthy, too pathetic…
His phone buzzed in his pocket, causing him to yelp as if shocked, and a brush of heat inflamed his high cheekbones as the receptionist raised one penciled eyebrow in his direction. He hastened to retrieve it from his pocket, but it vibrated again and he nearly dropped it. He flipped it open, his sweaty fingers fumbling on the intolerable object, and glanced at the name, “Douchebag”. A grim coldness set into his stomach as he recognized the so-fondly nicknamed caller. His father, of course. Probably calling to give the last touches on his critiques, on his warnings, on his constant naggings…
Fighting back a wave of nausea, Dominic jammed his finger against the ominous red button and severed the contact between he and his father. He held the button a little longer ‘till it shut down, which he thought he had done previously. He could only imagine how horrible a disaster would have occurred had he neglected to do so once his interview had started!

Abruptly the phone rang, though not his own. He glanced up rigidly as the receptionist answered, caught his eye, and motioned to him. His heart was racing too fast – he started hyperventilating in assumption that he’d die from lack of oxygen. He stood, legs complaining at his suddenly too-heavy weight, and walked to her, closing the distance in one, two, three strides…

“Head on in, Mr. Séraphin,” she said, and Dominic would have deemed it appropriate to add “the executioner will see you now.”
Trying to remember the art of breathing, he nodded appreciatively, the motion too jerking and exaggerated to be natural, and went to the door. For a second, he stood there staring at the handle, and was sure he would continue to do so as long as he remained Dominic Séraphin. So, naturally, he found the antidote in, well, not being Dominic.

He shifted on a mask, one that had a winning smile, bright eyes, and a sophisticated dialogue that he would normally stutter over. He turned the doorknob, entered the room, and immediately assessed the view. His eyes roamed over the faces of the board, feeling his insides twinge with apprehension, but he wouldn’t let it show. Nothing could show except that of what the board wanted.

“Have a seat, Mr. Séraphin,” the man said, and Dominic guessed he was getting sick of saying the same line over and over again to the various faces that came into this imposing room, each one displaying uncertainty and nervousness. They were searching for someone confident, not unabashed by their daunting erudition, and that was who Dominic became, adapting himself to the atmosphere.

“Thank you, sir.” Dominic’s voice was friendly, welcoming, and educated. He grinned and took the offered seat, putting his hands on the table and staring straight into the eyes before him.

“We have thoroughly reviewed your academic records, Mr. Séraphin, and we find they fit the requirements for a Spence Academy student. However, numbers and grades aren’t all we look at when accepting. We want to know the real you, the real reason you want to come here. So, please, divulge why you, in particular, would benefit us as a Spence Academy Student. Why should we accept you?”

Dominic felt his jaw lock up again. His doctor was going to kill him, but he just couldn’t stop the automatic reaction to the stress building in his nerves.

“Ma’am, I can’t tell you that I’ve grown up with the unwavering desire to attend Spence Academy. I can’t say I’m going to become the next President. But I can assure you, with the utmost certainty, that, were you not to accept me, you’d be wasting an opportunity to mold and prune the man who’s going to steal the spotlight of Hollywood. I will dedicate my talents to this school, and, once I graduate, you will have your reputation tied to my fame.”

She tucked one ankle neatly behind the other as she rolled her shoulders back then returned to her stiff posture as if she had a bored strapped to her back. She was in a black suit top with a while dress shirt underneath and a sensible black skirt, the only thing not really professional about here were the black stiletto slingbacks she was wearing. She was the only one that didn't look like she was hanging off his every word, instead she fixed him with a level look and let the others talk. The headmaster had made an appearance today and he was the one asking the boy seated before them why they should accept him. Chelsea was impressed, he defiantly had a way with words. She found her blue gaze trailing to the headmaster as he spoke then back to the boy when he replied, twirling a pen absently between her thin fingers. When he was done talking she let the pen fall against the clip board she held on her lap, suddenly drawing every set of eyes to her. "A very compelling argument Mr. Séraphin" she said softly. If only he had any idea how long she had been forced to practice that last name before she got it right. She took the time to look over last names and make sure she didn't mispronounce them and his had given her some grief. "We are not only known for turning out presidents and brain surgeons as many think but more then a few actors have been produced by us, along with aspiring artists." she explained and the headmaster cleared his throat. She tried not to snap a glare in his direction. "But I think you could do well, don't let us down." she said then let a small smile trail across her thin lips. "Welcome to Spence. You'll be given your class schedule on your way out and you may have a week to wander the campus before we expect you in your classes. You've already been assigned to a dorm and please come visit me in one months time so we can check on your progress" she said before standing and walking to the door. She opened it then moved back to her seat, a sign that it was time for him to leave.

Legacy - Wealthy, stunning, comes from well known families and have parents who attended Spence for all four years of their collage year and moved on to do great things. They have ruled the school forever and are definably not thrilled about 'Nouveaus' taking over their school. They are the ones who started the term Nouveau and use it as an insult to the new students. These students are usually the ones who don't have to work hard for their grades and are naturally smart. They are the ones you'll see curing cancer or finding a solution to world hunger. They look down at the Nouveaus and usually just ignore them and hope they go away or openly mock and despise them.

Nouveau - Comes from any class really, these are the students who's parents didn't go to Spence and aren't basically bred to be amazing. They can come from the same world as the Legacies, be just as rich but still the Legacies will forever look down on them. These students are still smart because only the truly amazing students get into Spence. The term Nouveau is not one these students would use because it is what the Legacies labeled them as and it's used as an insult. As much as they seem to hate the Legacies in return they just want to be accepted. Even though are larger in numbers they had absolutely no standing in the school.
