TOMORROW, TOMORROW & TOMORROW!!!| basics

Desmond J. Rowe
“Admiration is the furthest thing from understanding.”

CHARACTER’S FULL NAME: Desmond J. Rowe
NICKNAME(S): Des', Dessy(for those who want to get on his nerves)
GENDER: Male
DOB: December 7th
AGE: 19
ECONOMIC STATUS: Lower to Middle-class. His mother worked hard to keep enough money coming into the household, but they still struggled a bit.
SEXUAL ORIENTATION: Heterosexual

YEAR: Freshman
MAJOR: Athletic Trainer
MINOR: N/A
EDUCATION PRIOR TO SPENCE ACADEMY: Toms River High School North ( PUBLIC )

FULL OF SOUND AND FURY!!!| the outward particulars

FACE CLAIM: Christopher Brady(I think)
NOUVEAU OR LEGACY: Nouveau

HAIR: His hair is messy, and even after he tends to it, it sticks in his face. It is brunette-honey in color, a natural two-tone with the darker brown underneath, and the lighter blonde-brown on top.
EYES: His eyes are a deep, chestnut brown.
HEIGHT/WEIGHT: 6'0" / 170 lbs
BODY TYPE: All throughout highschool, Desmond was always book smart, but that didn't stop him from hitting the field and getting down and dirty. He's lean, but defined, primarily in his arms and stomach. Otherwise, he isn't too stocky because his sports didn't require too much muscle strength in his upper body.

FIRST IMPRESSION: Upon first impressions, Desmond is a quiet and reserved individual who seems interested in security and peaceful living. He gives off a serious air and the motivation to follow through on tasks. Organized and methodical in his approach, he will place great importance on honesty and integrity when he introduces himself.

THE WINTER OF OUR DISCONTENT!!!| the intricate parts

PERSONALITY: He isn't far from friendly and is, as well, adaptable, and action-oriented. Desmond is a "Doer" who is focused on immediate results. Living in the here-and-now, he's a risk-taker who lives a fast-paced lifestyle. He is impatient with long explanations. Extremely loyal to his peers, he is not usually respectful of laws and rules. He is very self-confident and aggressive. Des' can definately sometimes be very demanding and critical, because he has such strongly held beliefs, and is likely to express himself without reserve if he feels someone isn't meeting his standards. But at least his expression can be taken at face-value, because he is extremely straight-forward and honest(sometimes too honest as well as tactless).

LIKES:

  • Alternative Rock Music
  • War Videogames
  • Working Out
  • Sweet Tart Candy

DISLIKES:

  • Drama
  • Watermelon
  • Science and Math classes

  • Horror Movies

STRENGTHS:

  • Honest
  • Dominate/Leader
  • Very Self-Confident
  • Hard-working

WEAKNESSES:

  • Tactless
  • Too Stubborn
  • Arguementive
  • Opinionated
  • Messy and Disorganized

CHARACTER FLAWS: He can be overly self-confident, especially out on the soccer field. He can also get very competetive. Other than that, when he is in the classroom, he can be scrutinizing and hand everyone the cold shoulder. It's his own way of self defense when he is in a 'field' he isn't advantageous in.
ECCENTRICITIES: When nervous while talking to someone, he either itches his ears or rubs his hand along the back of his neck while looking downward.
TALENTS: He's athletic, a great defender in soccer. That's about it.

HOMETOWN: Toms River

HISTORY: Desmond was born in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. His life, to him, was never considered normal. His father was never around from when he was very young, parents never married, and his mother worked non-stop to support the household. But that never brought down Desmond's spirits. He was a bright, young boy. Able to make a good thing out of anything. Plus, everything got even better when he met his best friend, even if he was only seven. They seemed to play almost every day. But the one time Desmond invited him over, his mother basically had a canary.

They had been playing hide-and-go seek inside the house, when Desmond walked in on one of his mother's secret drug sessions with a strange face he had never seen. Everything went horribly wrong after that. Des's mother sent his friend home and banned him to his room. In a rage his mother yelled and struck at him. After that night, Desmond became more of an introvert, a shy boy.

Desmond stayed silent after that, never telling his best friend what happened at home, and masking that everything was fine. That once bright attitude was being used to cover up a lie. Three years passed with this whole charade still going on. Desmond played more of the mother of the house as his own mother seemed to get wasted alot more than usual. Then came his 13th birthday. His mother had promised a trip up north for him being so good. But on the way there, his mother got into a fight with his father on the phone. She lost control of the car on the icy December roads...it rolled multiple times. It was a couple hours before the emergency vehicles were notified.

They both survived, but his mother was robbed of her memories. She couldn't remember anything. Not even her son, Desmond. Everything was gone. All gone. She was bewildered in the hospital, crying often, and Desmond didn't know what to do. When she was healthy enough, they returned home, and Desmond worked hard to help her recover any memories she could.

He continued to work hard in school to keep his mother happy, and then joined soccer his freshman year of high school. That sport became his heart and soul. Every drill that was run, every time he was placed on the field in defense against rival teams, Desmond played with all his mind and body, not giving up despite burning oxygen-deprived lungs and throbbing muscles. He was upset his senior year, when three freshmen on the team had gotten suspended and ripped off the roster. It not only ended their season, but because it took twelve players to man the field, and their roster had thirteen names, Desmond's final Varsity season also came to a screeching halt.

He lived through it though, and continued practicing even though the list of games was canceled and he had no chance at making it into the paper. He finished his senior year ranked in the top ten percent, as Spence was the college he had in mind, and with the notice of a wider range of acceptance, he had his heart set on that college. Now he stands before the doors, preparing for the harsh reality of college life..

COWARDS DIE A THOUSAND TIMES!!!| the interview

Each step was taken carefully as he walked up the stairs toward the entrance, the sound of footsteps droning into his ears, almost to the point where it was deafening but then again that is what happens when you go to such a prestige school. Amber eyes looked one last time behind him to make sure that a wise ass wasn’t planning to sneak attack him, not that he was really nervous entering Spence, but he had this feeling that something bad was going to happen and normally when he got that feeling, it always came true. Nope, no one was there. A slender yet masculine hand slipped down into the pocket of his pants to touch the smooth surface of his phone. After he pulled it out he flipped the top of it and began to browse through his messages looking for just one specific one. Her picture was beside of it and instantly a smile crept upon his face. He'd make sure to call his mother the moment he found out if he was accepted or not.

After finding the message from one of his old high school friends he stopped in the middle of the hallway, almost getting pushed by a girl who was leading her boyfriend like he was a dog. He couldn’t help but to laugh lightly at the sight then look back down at the illuminant glow of his phone as he began to read the text. “You should call me some time soon! I miss you hun, xoxo Amore.” It had been weeks since he had gotten this and normally he would have deleted it but for some reason unknown to even himself, he didn’t. He closed the phone and put it back in his pocket before traveling down the hallway once more.

When he reached his destination he pushed the door open and looked at the secretary typing away. Oh how he hated this place because it made him feel so dreary! Normally he would avoid situations like this, but this was a potential place in Spence he was talking about! He pushed forward to her desk, smiling genuinely. “I'm here for an interview.” His tone was excited, but he tried to contain it. All of those feelings went away like a flash when he noticed that this was it. The beginning of what could decide his future.

Hands slipped from his pockets as rubbed them together, looking at the door he was designated to. He walked forward as it opened, ready for him to walk through. He allowed his head to tilt to the side as he went to look past the lady holding the door open to another lady behind that large mahogany desk. A third was seated to the side. He only sat when invited to do so, and held his hand out for a handshake.

Swallowing hard, Desmond clasped his hands together in between his lap. "Hello, it's a real pleasure to be able to meet you today, ma'am." She smiled curtly, her white teeth shining from between the of her lips. The young man felt himself go rigid when her eyes studied him, and the her contradicting voice flowed out from between her lips. "Likewise to you, Mr. Rowe. After taking a look at your academic records, I'm very pleased to say you are a very intelligent young man."

Desmond began to grow more comfortable as she spoke, and he nodded slowly, as if he was having difficulty comprehending what she was saying. And then when he started feeling like he was in, a question fell from her lips, one that made him stare right through her. "Tell me, why should we accept you into Spence Academy?" He thought silently for a moment, scolding himself for not preparing for this type of question sooner, and slowly decided he'd wing it.

"You've seen my grades, but those letters really dont spell out who I am as a student, as a person." Pausing for some sort of hopeful positive effect, Desmond only continued when he saw fit. "I can take anything the teachers here dish out at me. I'll work for it, strive to be one of the students on top here. I can't disappoint my mother, myself, and more importantly, you. So, tell me, do you think I have what it takes to be a Spence Academy student?" Almost chuckling to himself, Desmond felt his cheeks turn slight red from his impulsive improvising.

"After all, it's you who has to make the ultimate decision."

OOC:// First time I had ever done a sample post like that, so if it doesn't suffice, let me know, and I will change it. I felt like I was powerplaying... D=

He seemed nice enough, he had the smarts, not as brilliant as the majority of their legacies but that was to be expected. But what surprised her so much was that every time a new nouveau came in they always seemed to be better then the last. But they all seemed to timid and he was slightly better. But still, she loved scaring them. Starla closed the door easily behind him and walked off to do something or another and Jessica spoke easily to him. Chelsea only listened faintly as she flipped through his records, pursing her lips casually and frowning, not at his records but at the sloppy penmanship of some of his teachers. God, the nerve of some of these people. Jessica cleared her throat when he finished and Chelsea jerked her head up. "Hmmm?" she asked and Jessica raised a perfectly plucked eyebrow. "I have to admit, I enjoyed your speech, best I've heard from the new students yet" she said with a chuckle and then finally closed his records and placed them on Jessica's desk. "Welcome to Spence Mr. Rowe, please come visit me in a month though, it's something I ask all the new new students to do. You can have up to a week to wander the campus then we expect you in your classes. You can find your schedule on the desk on the way out." Chelsea finally said then looked to Jessica to see if she nodded then she looked over at Starla who gave her the thumbs up. That was good. Chelsea stood and walked to the door, opened it and motioned for him to be off. There were a thousand and one more students to interview...

Legacy - Wealthy, stunning, comes from well known families and have parents who attended Spence for all four years of their collage year and moved on to do great things. They have ruled the school forever and are definably not thrilled about 'Nouveaus' taking over their school. They are the ones who started the term Nouveau and use it as an insult to the new students. These students are usually the ones who don't have to work hard for their grades and are naturally smart. They are the ones you'll see curing cancer or finding a solution to world hunger. They look down at the Nouveaus and usually just ignore them and hope they go away or openly mock and despise them.

Nouveau - Comes from any class really, these are the students who's parents didn't go to Spence and aren't basically bred to be amazing. They can come from the same world as the Legacies, be just as rich but still the Legacies will forever look down on them. These students are still smart because only the truly amazing students get into Spence. The term Nouveau is not one these students would use because it is what the Legacies labeled them as and it's used as an insult. As much as they seem to hate the Legacies in return they just want to be accepted. Even though are larger in numbers they had absolutely no standing in the school.

Desmond has been here almost every day since joining Spence. She is a pleasure to be around and seemed to have made friends with everyone. So she can have the spotlight on her for a bit, plus you should check out her thread with Vivian, it's rather amusing XD.
